Phil Runser, Sr. began working in the Hariey industry in 1948 in Southern California. By the late 1960's he returned to his home state of Wisconsin and in 1971 he opened Superior Motorcycle Service in his hometown. From the beginning Phil saw a need in the Hariey industry for a true motorcycle machine shop. Soon after opening his business, Phil began offering valve seat replacement for regional dealers as well as cylinder work and custom machining. After the inception of the XR750, the first case race repairs were performed to restore the XR cases whose horsepower was knocking the races loose. This repair was soon transferred onto all models and eventually proved to be one of the most common job codes offered. Other earlier innovations were Shovel exhaust flanges on Panheads and the building of an all square custom Sportster in 1974.
By 1985 there was so much machine work coming in that Phil decided to split the machine shop into its own business and Advanced Cycle Machining was born. What started out as a small Midwestern shop has now turned into a full-scale machine shop specifically catering to the Hariey industry. Today Advanced Cycle Machining does work for hundreds of legitimate motorcycle dealers throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and offers more than 100 different job codes that are done on a repetitive basis. Pride in workmanship is the underlying theme in everything we do, always keeping the company motto. "We Like Challenges" in mind. |
